The prelude to the story begins in the first year of junior high school. A cute and well-behaved girl named Yoshio Futaba (voiced by Manaka Inoue) struggles with dealing with boys and finds them generally unpleasant. However, there is one exception: Tanaka, who is in a neighboring class, stands out as a special presence in her eyes. Unfortunately, their budding, awkward romance never has a chance to blossom, as Tanaka transfers schools. In the blink of an eye, Futaba is now a first-year high school student. Due to being ostracized by her classmates during junior high, she decides to disguise her true self. One ordinary recess, she unexpectedly encounters a boy who looks remarkably like Tanaka. His height and voice are vastly different from what they were in junior high, leaving her wondering if this boy, Marui Kou (voiced by Yuuki Kaji), is indeed the shy and delicate Tanaka she once knew. With a fluttering heart, the tender and youthful tale of their blossoming relationship begins to unfold.
