After Dong Zhuo burned Luoyang, the Eastern Coalition forces and the Xiliang army met at the Tiger Rampart Pass. Guan Yu and Zhang Fei assisted their elder brother in the Three Heroes' fight against Lu Bu, and Liu Bei finally became famous after one battle. Lu Bu secretly attempted to coerce the remnants of his troops to help him assassinate Dong Zhuo. On their way to Chang'an, the remnants encountered Yuan Shao's army, and were saved by Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei. Liu Bei mistakenly identified Liao Yuan as Zilong. Within Chang'an, the remnants and Lu Bu joined forces to oppose the Xiliang generals led by Li Rong. The two sides engaged in a battle of wits and bravery, and Li Rong ultimately perished alongside Dong Zhuo.
