Rintarou, who works at his family's cake shop, has always been the target of severe prejudice due to his towering height and fierce appearance. One day, while helping out at the shop, Rintarou meets Shunako, the only customer present. Despite her small stature, there are many plates of finished cakes in front of her. Upon seeing Rintarou, Shunako immediately flees the shop, leaving Rintarou feeling dejected and self-reproachful, thinking he has once again scared someone with his appearance. The next day after school, Rintarou spots Shunako waiting for someone at the entrance of his school. Rintarou and Shunako, attending two high schools with vastly different atmospheres—Kintsugi and Kikyō—begin a sweet and colorful tale of youth intertwined with their lives.
