Video information
Located on the northern slope of Mount Everest and built in 1899, Rongbuk Monastery is the world's highest monastery, situated about 20 kilometers from the summit. It is said that Guru Rinpoche once practiced here. Agu Sangjie is the only monk in the monastery, who regards Mount Everest as the manifestation of Vajrayogini and believes that humans should not disturb her. However, his son is an excellent high-altitude guide who graduated from the "Tibet Mountaineering School." This unique school, the only one in the world that continuously enrolls students, only accepts students from the two counties at the foot of Mount Everest. Its purpose is to train the children of herders into brave and resolute high-altitude guides over four years. They will lay the path, fix safety ropes, set up all camps from the base camp to 8,400 meters, and transport supplies and luggage before the brief window of opportunity for summiting each year, thereby ensuring the safety of climbers and allowing them to push their limits and reach heights they could not achieve alone... The film tells the story of one monk, one monastery, one mountain, and a group of people. Its name comes from the small white ladders painted by Tibetans on the rock walls of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which the locals call "Heaven's Ladder" and believe it can guide the souls of the world to a sacred place. These young guides of Mount Everest play the role of the "Heaven's Ladder" - while some people see 8,848 meters as the end of their journey, for them, it is just the beginning and a rite of passage into adulthood.
