The Forbidden City, which spans the Ming and Qing dynasties and has been completed for nearly 600 years, houses over 1.8 million precious artifacts, including the Five Oxen Picture and the Along the River During the Qingming Festival. After a century of vicissitudes, these treasures of humanity have been covered with dust and are in various states of damage. Since the founding of the Palace Museum, generation after generation of artifact restorers have entered the red walls of the Forbidden City. Through their miraculous hands, they have infused new vitality into each artifact. Wooden objects, ceramics, bronze, lacquerware, clocks, embroidery, paintings, and calligraphy all have their unique characteristics and restoration challenges. These restorers are content with solitude and simplicity, carefully feeling the faint pulse of history as they engage in conversation with the artifacts. Artifacts have souls and lives, and they are closely connected to the inner beauty of humanity. When the dust-covered artifacts are restored to their former brilliance, we should not forget the hard work of these ordinary yet great craftsmen!
