Tamta Gabrichidze's documentary *The Trader* won the Short Film Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival on Tuesday. The young director's short film premiered three times last week at Sundance. Earlier this month, the short film was selected by Netflix for global distribution. This is one of the Sundance short film award winners, and the festival will continue until Sunday. The trader, also known as Sovdagari, follows the protagonist Gela through the countryside of Georgia, selling second-hand clothes and everyday items from the back seat of his van. Gela does business in villages and towns where the primary currency of exchange is potatoes, not money. Both young and old watch his truck, and their eyes light up when they see modern conveniences like sponges and brushes. It is a puzzle that contrasts rural values with urban values, dirt with gold. The documentary was produced by Ilia Tavberidze and was selected for Sundance's 2018 Short Film Program, which focuses on female filmmakers. This award is the second highlight for Gabrichidze, following the Best Short Film award at the 2017 Canadian Documentary Festival. This is Gabrichidze's fifth work. In 2009, Gabrichidze directed the short film and documentary *Lady Nature*.
