Video information

Director Edward Yang has been gone for ten years. In 1982, Xiao Yin invited newly returned from studying abroad Edward Yang to participate in the production of "The Story of Time" by the Central Motion Picture Corporation (CMPC), marking the official entry of the name "Edward Yang" into the Taiwanese film circle. During the preparation of "A Day at the Beach" in 1983, Edward Yang proposed numerous radical changes to the system, which almost led to the CMPC ordering the production to stop. On the day before the final negotiation, he wrote a piece titled "The Fairytale of Time" to Xiao Yin, which was a story about an old rice shop owner caught between an energetic young apprentice and a complacent old employee, using this to metaphorically illustrate the necessity of reforming the old system. Edward Yang was a person who, over the course of more than twenty years of creative work, pursued perfection in his creations with the utmost enthusiasm and independent spirit, immersing himself in the world of film throughout his life. The "Ten Years Later, Revisiting Edward Yang" special feature selects and screens classic works such as "The Story of Time," and also invites Edward Yang's disciples to showcase their early works, presenting how they were inspired by Edward Yang to embark on their film-making journeys. In addition to the film screenings, Director Wu Yifeng interviewed figures such as Yeh Yizheng, Xiao Yin, Yu Weiyen, Du Duzhi, Yu Kangping, Zhang Zhen, Chen Xiangqi, Wei Desheng, Tang Congsheng, Chen Xisheng, Hong Hong, Jiang Xiujiong, Wang Weiming, Chen Junlin, and others, asking them to share details of their interactions with Edward Yang in the past. This is to commemorate Edward Yang, the director who has been gone for ten years.
