Video information

In 1973, humans accidentally discovered that bacteria living in symbiosis with tubeworms near deep-sea hydrothermal vents, where there is no sunlight at all, thrive vigorously. Some of these bacteria are among the oldest species known to date, suggesting that this area could be the place where life originated in ancient times. The content of this film will take us on a journey to the isolated depths of the ocean, led by the Nautilus and Hydra submarines, to explore the origins of life in ancient times. First, the submarines will take us down to a depth of 600 meters, into a world that is perpetually shrouded in darkness. We will track and observe the Earth's largest carnivorous animal, the sperm whale, as well as the rare and thrilling hunting process of the Earth's largest invertebrate, the giant squid. Next, the submarines will take us down to a depth of over 1,500 meters, where the water temperature is close to freezing and the pressure on the submarine's surface exceeds 218 kilograms per square centimeter. We will enter the harsh environment of the hydrothermal vents, witnessing the thrilling sight of superheated water gushing out from cracks in the seabed, as well as the extraordinary ecosystem of large tubeworms, hydrothermal crabs, and other species that defy traditional thinking. These are all scenes that have never been seen by humans before. Finally, the submarines encounter a sperm whale chasing a group of giant squids. In the midst of a thrilling and chaotic collision, the submarine captain quickly activates the automatic rapid ascent, bringing the thrilling deep-sea diving journey to an end.
