Video information

Gansu, located in the golden belt of the Silk Road, is the region with the densest distribution of grotto clusters in the country. The province has a total of 205 grotto clusters of various sizes, ranking first in the country in terms of quantity. Two out of China's Four Great Grottoes are located in Gansu, and half of China's Ten Great Buddha Statues are also in Gansu. The earliest grotto clusters carved in inland China are almost all concentrated along the ancient Silk Road in Gansu, spanning three thousand miles. The exchange and collision between Buddhist civilization and Chinese civilization gave birth to the unique Dunhuang grotto art and Liangzhou Buddha statue style. The documentary *China's Grotto Corridor* consists of four episodes: *The Ancestor of Grottoes*, *Dunhuang's Art*, *The Eastern Smile*, and *National Treasures*. It focuses on the Liangzhou Grotto Cluster, the Dunhuang Grotto Cluster, the Tianshui Grotto Cluster, and the Longdong Grotto Cluster, tracing back to the Kizil Grottoes in Xinjiang to the west and extending to the Yungang Grottoes in Datong and the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang to the east. Within the temporal and spatial coordinates spanning thousands of years and tens of thousands of miles, the documentary explores the origins and development of China's grottoes, showcasing the entire process of the Sinicization of Buddhist art, highlighting Gansu's significant historical status as the ancestor of China's grottoes. Its aim is to promote excellent traditional Chinese culture, find the basis for cultural confidence, and rediscover the historical glory of Chinese culture.
