Video information

In the 1970s, before China had fully opened up, four documentary masters from Italy, France, the United States, and Japan independently came to China to capture various aspects of China and the lives of its people with their cameras. They left behind four groundbreaking documentary films that shook the world: *China* (Italy), *Moving a Mountain* (France), *From Mao to Mozart* (United States), and *New Winds in Shanghai* (Japan). These films not only allowed the world to gain its first large-scale understanding of China but also provided a valuable resource for Chinese people to reflect on history and recall their parents' and grandparents' lives. Forty years have passed. What changes has China undergone? Can the ordinary people who appeared in those films still be found? Today, four international friends from Italy, France, the United States, and Japan have returned to China. The images from the past allowed them to initially form a vague understanding of China. Now, they have decided to use their own eyes to see the tremendous changes that have occurred in China today. Remarkably, they have managed to reconnect with the ordinary people who appeared in the past films. Through close observation and authentic documentation, they naturally present the changes China has undergone over the past forty years. We have captured the journey of these four visitors exploring China in a five-part documentary over the course of a year. The natural transitions between new and old footage subtly reveal the power of time and the immense changes, evoking reflection and deep thought.
