Video information

Thirty years ago, ten thousand farmers from the Yellow River bank in Gansu Province left their homes and moved to towns. Along with them, the folk songs of the Yellow River that had been passed down through generations also disappeared from the Loess Plateau. Born in Baiyin, the sheepherding boy Zhang Gasa was afflicted with a speech impediment from a young age, but he was influenced by his elders and developed a love for folk songs. In 2012, Gasa came to the city to make his mark, and by chance, he embarked on a career in entertainment, performing in bars all over. He hoped to become famous through this path. He was passionate about Northwest folk songs and traveled far and wide to learn from masters. Due to his "earthy" style, he was invited to participate in a popular TV talent show, becoming a beloved "folk singer." At this time, the unexpected passing of his grandfather made Gasa realize that he was losing his "rural flavor," and the distant homeland and the bonds of his childhood were gradually unraveling. The future was slow to arrive, and as Gasa waited for fame, he gradually felt lost, finding solace only in the deep, earthy scent of wheat and soil. The past is gone, and the only solace is in listening to the distant echoes of his homeland.
