Video information

The film is directed by renowned photographer and documentary filmmaker Jiao Bo, whose previous works, "My Father, My Mother" and "Kiss Spring - Me and My Earthquake Orphans," had a significant impact on Chinese society, especially as "My Father, My Mother" touched the hearts of countless children and parents. This time, in "China in the Countryside," Jiao Bo once again directs his lens toward his hometown - Zibo, Shandong Province. However, this time, he is not filming the village where he was born, but rather Shao Yu Village in Yiyuan County, a revolutionary base in Yimeng Mountain. The film uses a small village as its starting point to showcase the tremendous changes in China's rural areas, environmental protection, and the spiritual and material pursuits of farmers, among other social realities. It is both lively and deeply moving. Jiao Bo revealed to reporters that during the filming of this documentary, he and his production team spent a total of 373 days in Shao Yu Village: "There are 167 households in the village, and we became the 168th household." Jiao Bo's production team, apart from him being the oldest (nearing 60 years old), has an average age of just over 20 among the other four main creators: "So, this film not only presents the social reality of China's rural areas but also does so from the perspective of young people. I believe it will also be well-received by young people." Over the 373 days, the "China in the Countryside" production team lived and ate with the local villagers, becoming like one big family. They filmed nearly 1,000 hours of footage, ultimately editing down to about two hours ofEssence. Jin Yue, who has directed the CCTV Spring Festival Gala multiple times, believes that "China in the Countryside" vividly and realistically portrays the joys, sorrows, family relationships, and customs of individual Chinese farmers. The characters are distinct and lively, the film structure is full of tension, the story is complex yet clear in its narrative, the visuals are simple and natural, the editing is smooth, and thecontemporaneous sound recording is perfect. It is "a rare and meaningful record of the rural life of China in this era, a valuable specimen."
