Video information

The film was nominated for the Young Directors Forum section at the Berlin Film Festival and won the FIPRESCI Award (International Federation of Film Critics Award) in that section. The Fonderia Artistica Battaglia in Milan, Italy, was founded in 1913 and is an ancient and significant Italian artistic institution. It uses the lost-wax method to cast bronze sculptures. First, the shape of the object is made out of wax, then it is dipped into a pool containing ceramic, dried, and covered with an outer layer. This process is repeated multiple times before casting. This technique can be traced back to the 4th century BCE and has been preserved and used to this day. The film captures these artists with their ancient techniques and how they continue the complex methods of bronze casting.
