Video information

A documentary poem of the impoverished rural children in China, and also a (pseudo) narrative film. In June 2015, the tragic news of four siblings committing suicide in Bijie, Guizhou, once again shocked the world. The issue of left-behind children became a burning topic overnight, and a lingering ember ignited the director's heart, leading to the creation of this documentary. It is both a personal diary and a major social issue, seemingly focusing on a desperate case but actually pointing to the entire rural China. The director ventured into the tense village with a mobile phone, where rural life, children, poverty, and violence are interlinked in a desperate cycle. The documentary begins with a six-minute-long howling of dogs in the dark. Through the unique perspective of an adult and a child, and with distinctive editing and narrative techniques, the director exposes the current predicament, questioning evil and also seeking hope.
