Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, attracts countless dreamers every year. Xia Bo Yu is the first Chinese "tough grandpa" to successfully reach the summit of Mount Everest with a prosthetic limb! In 1975, Xia Bo Yu joined the Chinese Mountaineering Team. During his climb of Mount Everest, he helped a teammate, which resulted in his own legs being amputated due to frostbite. However, he did not give up his dream of reaching the summit. Over the next 43 years, despite undergoing double leg amputations, battling cancer, and enduring illness, Xia Bo Yu made five attempts to climb Mount Everest. Through his perseverance and passion, he was finally accepted by the peak and successfully reached the summit at the age of 69 on May 14, 2018. This made him the first Chinese person to summit Mount Everest without legs, and he also became the fifth Chinese person to win the Laureus World Sports Award for Best Sports Moment, following Yao Ming, Liu Xiang, the Chinese Olympic Delegation, and Li Na.
