"Original China" captures the "pure essence" of folk songs, stripping away layers of embellishment to present the vibrant life in its raw form. In the vast expanse of nature, by the mountains and rivers, or on a rustic bed, the singers open their hearts with their voices; they tell stories of fate through their tales; they bear witness to historical changes through melodies; and they use the most genuineDialect to invite you to slow down, return to the starting point of life. In "Original China," the camera takes you from the coldest to the hottest, from the highest to the lowest, from desert winds to ocean waves, from the passionate songs of the Northwest's flower festivals to the whispered love songs of the Miao people, from the joyous celebrations of a newborn in Shaanxi to the funeral dances of the Tujia people in Hubei, from the thousand trees of the Greater Khingan Mountains to the thousand boats of the Leizhou Peninsula, from a single drop of water at the source of the Three Rivers to a barrel of wine of the nomadic people on the grasslands. All of this is woven into a network of civilization through song, celebrating the gift of life. Each episode explores the local customs and traditions of a specific region, which serve as the soil and foundation for the birth of a folk song. Each episode revolves around the story of one or several main characters, who will fulfill a wish, perform a ritual, or embark on a mission. As these events unfold and are completed, they introduce the regional cultural landscape, the background of the characters' stories, and one or more folk songs related to the plot. The folk songs in the film play different roles; some are integral parts of a ritual, while others serve as a means of emotional exchange and communication between characters. These folk songs all originate from life, some inherited from ancestors and refined by the passage of time. Ultimately, they are infused with the emotions of the protagonists and passed on. Therefore, the most touching part of a story is often condensed into a single folk song. These folk songs not only carry the taste of history but, more importantly, the essence of each person's life.
