To cut through all conflicting scientific views and prepare for fatherhood, Damon Gameau decided to uncover the real effects of sugar on human health. Damon Gameau is an Australian actor and director who has been eating a sugar-free diet for several years and conducted a personal experiment on sugar. For a period of time, Damon Gameau consumed 40 teaspoons of sugar daily for 60 days, which is the average daily sugar intake for most people. The sugar naturally present in food is often considered healthy, so desserts, chocolate, ice cream, and soda are deemed unhealthy, while juice, granola, yogurt, and many "light" products are considered harmless. As the experiment progressed, Damon Gameau collaborated with actors, animators, and special effects artists to examine those "junk" foods and discussed the experiment with a medical expert team, resulting in a significant provisional finding. For example, Stephen Fry delivered an engaging demonstration on the differences between glucose, sucrose, and fructose, while Gameau (or his "nano version") showcased a fascinating journey to precisely locate sugar in his own brain. In addition to the experimental content, the film includes numerous light-hearted interviews, such as one with a sugar addict in an indigenous community and another with a scientist sponsored by the Coca-Cola Company.
