Video information

The documentary tells the story of a four-week Chinese-style teaching experiment conducted by five Chinese teachers at a secondary school in Hampshire, southern England. The characteristics of Chinese-style teaching are strictness and long hours. Chinese students often rank at the top in some well-known international exams. However, is it feasible to educate British secondary school students using Chinese teaching methods? What do the participating teachers and students think about it? What are their experiences? First, as part of the experiment, the Chinese teachers took over a class of 50 students in Year 9. These students were required to wear uniform school uniforms, arrive at school at 7 a.m., and spend 12 hours in school each day, with two breaks for meals. They also had to participate in a weekly Chinese flag-raising ceremony. In class, note-taking was the main focus, along with group exercises. Additionally, students were responsible for cleaning the classroom, among other tasks.
